Hot Rod Reunion

On Saturday I tool the day off and drove to Bakersfield for the Hot Rod Reunion. This is an event where vintage drag cars are raced and hot rods are shown as well. I've been going here since 1997 or 98 and this year was the best attendance I've ever seen. The top fuel cars run mid 5's at 260 or so, and there was a funny car field 35 cars strong. Here's a few pics!

This is an old top fuel car, when they first discovered nitromethane as a fuel. This one has been restored to concours condition and was never this nice back in the day.

Check out the accomidations. Wire mesh seat and an early Ford rear axle situated right where it could do a lot of damage if it came apart!

This is an interesting take on 180 degree headers, I wonder how the driver felt about making passes with those megaphones at full song!

Just one of many super stock cars, this one appears to be a 62 or 63 Savoy with a hot Wedge motor.. These things are ugly and quick. I love them!
