Making Parts

This 1961 Falcon station wagon is owned by an old friend of mine. He built the car, then when it was almost done sold it to a friend. Now he's bought it back but it needs some attention. It has a well disguised 302 (posing as a 260) swapped in where the straight six was. It also has an overheating issue and sagged springs, along with a bunch of nitpicky small stuff.

Here's how I made the fan spacer, the next step in this part of the job is fitting a four row radiator!

The motor is a 1971 302 but it's well disguised as an original-ish 260.

The original 4 blade 6 cylinder fan is one the left. There was a nice 7 blade fan that came with the car but the moutning was all wrong.

I noticed the fan spacer that came with the car fit the center of the big fan perfectly, so I used it for a pattern.

Here's the spacer fit into a piece of 1/4" aluminum plate. It's also laid out for the fan holes.

This is the outer ring of the adapter all done.

I made this inner piece out of 3/8 aluminum plate.

This is how they fit together, note the step where the fan can register on center.

Here the two rings are welded together and bolted to the fan. I used countersunk allens for a flush fit.

And here's the adapter from the front. See how the fan is located on the adapter to keep it centered?
