While to motor was out I took care of wiring the entire Studebaker from scratch. I used the EZ Wiring harness kit but I decided to use the smaller version with only 12 circuits since I didn't need the extras like power windows, cruise control, power door locks, A/C, etc. By this time in the build I was on automatic pilot since I had ben working so many days in a row, and 15-18 hours a day.
Here's a few highlights.

Do not be intimidated by the size of this job! I started by running the wires for the front section of the harness. |

I decided to wire the instrument cluster by itself on the bench. I figured that was I could make it nice and neat without crawling under the dash. |

In 1954 the Studebaker was originally a 6 volt car. The guy who swapped the Corvette motor in 1959 also converted the car to 12 volt back then. After I gutted all the old wiring I had to redo the 12 volt conversion, but since I am using period correct mechanical gauges I only had to worry about the original 6 volt fuel gauge Here you can see the voltage reducer I used to knock the voltage down to 6 volt, it's the black thing attached to the power side of the fuel gauge. Nice and neat! |
