I am finally making some headway on the Mercedes convertible. It was taken apart almost six weeks ago with the trim being sent off for repair and then chroming, and the interior needed fixing as well. It took forever to get the matching hide of leather made, and it looks like I might have the trim back in a few days. These kinds of jobs are nightmares for me because the car is just sitting while I'm waiting on outside vendors to do their thing, and in the meantime I'm not making a dime off the job. All the while working hard not to scratch the paint or worse while I'm moving the thing around every day.
But I digress.
One of the myriad of issues we had with the car was a very poor quality job on the interior restoration. The dash was wrapped with leather, but it was lumpy in most places and ripped in one. Plus the glovebox was lined in leather (which is incorrect) and there was trim missing in the door jambs. I had my favorite trimmer (upholstery guy) come over and fix her all up nice like. Why not take a gander at the pics!

The leather wrapped dash was lumpy, here's why. This is a "restored" car? Also, not the dashboard itself is made of cast aluminum. The inner door structures in this car are cast as well. |

Danny cleaned off the old foam and replaced it with new, then he shaped it with a rasp to get the curves just right. |

Here it is all wrapped and back to perfect! |

This is the glovebox after being recovered in proper suede. |
