My Neighbor

My neighbor and friend, Shinya, is a custom motorcycle builder. The man is an artist and a genius, and he is so true to his work in a way that I can only describe as inspirational. Shinya is not about anything but what he does and although he deserves a thousand times more attention than he gets, he doesn't care much for any of it.

But I digress.

Shinya participated in an event called the Motorcycle Cannonball where people rode 1916 and older motorcycles from coast to coast. Literally, from the Atlantic in North Carolina to the Pacific in California. This afternoon I left my shop early to meet the end of the rally in Santa Moncia at the pier. Shinya and his friend Yoshi rode a 1915 Indian the whole way, with Ayumi running chase in their Ford van. They broke a crank pin in Oklahoma and a seat post in Texas but they kept it together and finished the event. Here they are on the pier!
