I made a big push on the Pontiac over the last couple of weeks, now it runs and drives. There were a lot of details that needed to be sorted out but I made my way through most of them and now it goes down the road all by itself.
To review...The motor is a high compression 1957 Pontiac 347 which has been bored .030 over and has a pretty big custom ground hydraulic cam. Of course, there's a bitchin' Offenhasuer three deuce setup, fenderwell headers a hydro transmission. We stuck some coil spring speaders in the front springs for now to get the stance up, but I think this will eventually get the full straight axle treatment.
Overall I think it turned out great. The car sounds the part of a period super stock drag racer and looks like it was found in a Pasadena garage after a long slumber. The car was very solid to start with, when I hooked up the battery top get it running the dome light came on! The radio works, the lighter works, it's a real creampuff.

We added super skinny bias ply tires up front, and raised the front a little with coil spring spreaders. |
|
In the rear we mounted the cheater slicks on the stock Pontiac wheels. These are also bias ply with tubes, these tires are at least 40 year old NOS slicks. |
|
Here's the side with the stock Pontiac dog dish hub caps. It really has the super stock look. Eventually there will be a front bumper treatment of some kind. |
|
Dome light still works after 56 years. |

We had to install a fuel pressure regulator to knock the fuel pressure down to 3.5 pounds. The old Rochester 2 Jets do not like a lot of pressure. I took some creative liberties with the fuel line... |
