Mustang Progress

I started on the '66 Mustang convertible right after it came in. The first step was to make it a roller again, so I installed the front and rear suspension, plus all the brakes. We are updating the suspension with KYB gas adjustable shocks, lowering springs front and rear and front disc brakes from SSBC. The installation was all pretty straight forward, there were a couple of hiccups with wrong parts and whatnot but nothing that I haven't come to expect after 25 years of messing with old cars. I was able to find a vendor who is supplying all new hard parts for the rear drums, which was nice. In the past I have always been forced to clean and reuse some small parts that were not being reproduced.

Here's the pics, next up I'll install the motor and transmission, and make all the hard lines. Enjoy!

The front suspension went together well, here is the passenger side all assembled. It's really a pleasure to put a car together when it's this nice.

Another closeup showing the detail work.

The disc brake kit from SSBC is well designed and uses a factory style four piston caliper. The crossover lines and the bleeder screws are stainless steel. Nice!

Here's the steering all assembled with new grade 8 hardware. we are ready for the motor!

The rear axle was all rebuilt with new seals, bearing, crush washers and hardware. I used copper washers and new stovebolts along with my secret methods for that no leak seal!

The axles were redone but didn't look that nice so I wire wheeled everything back to bare metal and painted all of it. No one will ever see this but we know it's done right.

Finally, here's the rear brakes totally redone with all new hardware. It's great to have all these parts available new!
