1932 Roadster Progress

I made some progress on Rick King's '32 Roadster project. This car was purchased as a build in progress so the price was right but there were a few things that needed to be changed. One thing was the fuel tank placement, this frame had bobbed frame rails in the rear with the fuel tank placed in the trunk. Rick wanted the tank in it's stock location so I had to add the rear frame extensions back and mount the tank.

Also, the motor was moved back just over 2" from the supplied location because the lower blower pulley is 3" thick and would have hit the front crossmember. Rick moved the motor mounts just fine but the transmission mount had to be moved as well and never got finished. After scoping out what was there I decided it would be easier and better to start over and make a new transmission mount.

Here's how it went.

Rick got the rear frame extensions from Brookville. I got them all lined up, trimmed them to fit and welded them on. Here's the right side all buttoned up.

Here's the left side ready to go.
The fuel tank is in the stock location, just like Henry (and Edsel) intended.

The lower blower pulley is exrta thick and required the motor to be set back pretty hard. Normally a small block Chevy would be mounted with the balancer where the blower pulley is.
This was the mount that came with the TCI chassis. It was too short and not deep enough. I could have welded a bunch of little bits on this one but I decided to start over.

I made this up out of 1/4" cold rolled steel strap. It's deep enough and has the correct basic shape.

After a little slicing and a couple of trips to the mill I came up with this.

Fits like a glove, done and done!
