MGA Progress

We got the 2.3 Turbo motor installed in the '59 MGA Coupe. It took a little doing, but doing is what we do.

We started by removing the stock wood floors. Yes, wood floors. Then we had to remove one of the floor braces to clear the transmission. The pedal box had to be trimmed back so the motor could sit further back and lower than stock. Tom made up some motor mounts and frame mounts that use early Flathead ford rubber mounts, and then he made a simple transmission mount in almost the stock location. Finally, he replaced the floor brace we removed earlier only in a revised location. Here's how it went!

Tom removed all the wood floor panels. We will replace them with floors made from 18 gauge steel sheet. Here he is removing the passenger side floor brace to clear the transmission.

Tom made up these motor mounts out of 3/16 cold rolled steel plate. They are simple and strong.
Here's the one side installed. Nice!

The motor fits just fine, like it was born there. Next up is the new intake upper plenum, the new turbo manifold and all the piping.

The transmission is much larger than the stock one but we managed to make it fit just fine. Here you can see the relocated floor brace.
