Making Parts

Last week I finished the intercooler piping on the Datsun Roadster. It's all made in 2 inch aluminum except for the turbo intake which is 2.5". I also used some of the factory SR20DET aluminum elbows to make my own parts by cutting off the mounting flanges and welding them to my own design piping. Here's the scoop.

The factory T28 turbo has some peculiar sized inlet and discharge flanges. To save time I cut the stock inlet and discharge piping apart and kept the flanges.  This is the discharge pipe cut apart on the bandsaw.

ere it is installed
Here it is bolted to the turbo.
I used the same strategy for the inlet, but I used 2.5" tubing. Note the slight bend in the tube, it was needed to package everything neatly as you'll see.
I made this bracket to hold the MAF sensor and air filter to the inner fender panel, also out of aluminum.
Here it is attached to the MAF assembly and...
Here it is installed in the car. The two pieces will be joined by a short length of  inlet hose and two band clamps.
This is a birds eye view of the completed piping.
And this is what the bird sees from the other side. Nice!
