Making Parts

When I made the new header for the Studebaker I had to figure out a way to mount the 1957 Chevrolet generator. I was forced to use this generator because the power steering pump is mounted to the back of it. This is kind of a questionable design but since the Studebaker has power steering I needed a way to run it and the original builder had come up with this modification. I started by making this bracket out of 1/4" cold rolled steel.

Here's how my new bracket was shaped to fit on my new header flange.

I clamped the whole deal to the welding table so it would stay flat and then I tig welded it all together.

And here it is installed on the motor.

See how the power steering pump is bolted to the back of the generator? This means the accessory drive needs only one pully to drive both things but if one of them breaks, the whole deal has to be rebuilt.
